This practical twilight CPD session for primary schools explores how to ensure that your planned PE is inclusive, engages and challenges all pupils in your class / school. These are key themes that we are asked to deliver CPD on and we combine our significant experience to offer a twilight to boost teachers knowledge, understanding and skills in achieving inclusive, engaging, challenging high-quality PE for ALL pupils.

Designed to compliment any scheme of work, it explores proven principles of planning, teaching and assessment that can be aligned with any area of activity as well as planning scheme. By focusing on principles and knowledge for teachers, teaching assistants et al, we are able to ensure that those delivering primary PE are able to focus on what matters in terms of achieving high-quality PE, despite a lack of initial teacher training, or never having taught PE before etc.

This twilight is fast-paced but allows staff to explore practical application that they can use in their teaching from the very next day. With no additional ‘scheme’ or paperwork, applying principles to how they plan, implement and assess their pupils will allow staff to feel more competent and able to deliver PE lessons which are inclusive, engaging and challenging for all pupils despite the range of abilities that they are likely to encounter.

Perfect CPD for the new PE and sport premium and bearing in the mind the Government’s review of the funding to increase staff knowledge in the teaching of PE. Upskill your staff without the need for additional resources, memberships, material or schemes. Align staff knowledge with your planning documents to help ensure that they are more impactful and teachers, and by default, pupils enjoy and engage more with physical education in your school.

Teachers and staff teaching and supporting PE will explore such principles as:

• Layering learning outcomes / success criteria
• S.T.E.P. / ASPECT / TREE / CHANGE IT strategies for inclusion, challenge and engagement
• Dynamic Assessment / Diagnosis
• Challenge in PE
• Creating engaging lessons
• Aligning warm-up and all elements of the lesson on the L.O.
• Clarity of focus of learning, next steps, T.I.B’s (This Is Because) – the context and bigger picture of the learning
• Increasing physical activity, engagement
• Reducing queues, waiting, off-task time

• Your preferred timings – dates, day of the week etc. to secure your session
• Discuss with you your school’s individual needs as well as existing scheme of work, resourcing and monitoring
• Numbers of staff to attend, including staff supporting PE etc.
• Themes that you may feel are a thread for all staff, those more appropriate for some staff etc.
• Agree costs for Travel and if appropriate accommodation (please note we charge @50p/mile based on Google Maps)
• Discuss practical space available and whether a focus on an upcoming area of activity would be preferred e.g. if Gymnastics is an area of anxiety for staff and this will be starting soon on the curriculum it could help staff confidence to focus upon this area of activity through the twilight

When you are totally happy we will invoice based upon all the agreed above etc. and confirm the date, timings of the session for your staff.

The session will be evaluated and a copy of all evaluations will be shared with the school to provide impact evidence from the CPD to help showcase spending and progression.
