Teaching Throwing in / through Athletics

This Twilight CPD session is  a must for all those wanting to improve their pupils throwing ability as well as staff knowledge and confidence too! Remember that we use throwing in so many different places – let’s not isolate skills but combine them so pupils can use their knowledge to apply to their performance in throwing at anytime – on the beach skimming stones, playing netball, cricket, dodgeball etc.

The focus is on throwing technique, understanding the ‘how to’ combined with the practical knowledge of how to teach this, to organise the learning and the learners! Through proven approaches staff can see how approaches to increasing activity levels and engagement can lead to deeper understanding of how to throw in a way that will facilitate transferability of knowledge and skills.

We combine this approach with adding activities and games that give meaning, purpose and value to the skill being taught in order to ensure a connection with the learning. We look at group / class management for both safety (of course – we are throwing things after all!) and maximising activity and engagement. We share various equipment tips – what works well, introduce different equipment and strategies to get the learning across.

Active session throughout, with reflection and review of your own throwing technique and knowledge of throwing events in athletics as well as throwing actions in other activities such as cricket, rounders etc.

Please note that Travel is charged at 50p/mile and added to the cost of this session. We use Google Maps to calculate using your postcode and ours for transparency.
